Aga Khan Academies
In 2000, His Highness the Aga Khan initiated the establishment of an integrated network of schools, called Aga Khan Academies, dedicated to expanding access to education of an international standard of excellence. The Academies, which educate young men and women from pre-primary through higher secondary education, are planned for key locations in Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Middle East. The first Aga Khan Academy opened in Mombasa, Kenya in August 2003. The second, in Hyderabad, India, began operating in 2011, and the third Aga Khan Academy opened in Maputo, Mozambique in 2013.

The Aga Khan Academies network is constructing 18 residential campuses in Africa, the Middle East and Asia that will feature a rigorous and locally relevant curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate.

Each Academy has a Professional Development Centre that extends modern teaching methods to government and other schools. These Centres improve the learning environment for 30,000 students.
50%
Admission to the Aga Khan Academies is merit-based and needs-blind for talented students. For this reason, financial aid is intended for 50% percent of the students who are selected to attend the Aga Khan Academy in Maputo.
