The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is a not-for-profit school situated in Matola city in the Maputo Province. It is the third in a global network of day and residential schools for exceptional students from all backgrounds across Mozambique and internationally.

In 2000, His Highness the Aga Khan initiated the establishment of the Aga Khan Academies. Maputo is the third campus, after Hyderabad (India) and Mombasa (Kenya).

The Academy’s 22-hectare site was kindly donated by the Mozambican government and was designed by leading architects. The Academy offers students an inspirational learning environment, and residential and sports facilities for students aged 3 to 18.

The Academy’s curriculum is built on the framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and has been accredited as an IB World School. The programme promotes academic rigour through themes designed to give students the skills to lead in their fields globally and locally by promoting international awareness, social responsibility, creativity and high ethical standards.

An Early Years programme at the Academy in Maputo welcomes children aged 3 to 5 years. This programme lays the foundations for a happy, balanced and healthy life – helping girls and boys from a young age to relate to others and manage life’s ups and downs, and embrace new ideas and cultures.

A talented, experienced and diverse team of educators has been selected from a global pool, including Mozambican nationals, some with international experience. All teachers have access to the Academy’s Professional Development Centre, which develops teachers – of the highest quality – who are committed to both the all-round development of young people and to their own professional growth.

From an early age, Academy students learn to care about the people and environment around them. Through collaborating with community partners, students have engaged in various service projects, ranging from beach clean-ups and developing numeracy, literacy and technology-based projects with partner schools.

Inauguration of the Aga Khan Academy Maputo

Maputo, Mozambique, 18 March 2022 - The Aga Khan Academy Maputo, a new academic centre of excellence situated on a 22-hectare site, will be officially inaugurated tomorrow by the President of the Republic of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi together with the President of the Portuguese Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in the presence of Prince Rahim Aga Khan, representing His Highness the Aga Khan, founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network.
