Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Education, Mr. Shafqat Mahmood, praised the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) for providing quality education to students in some of the remotest parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, the country’s northern-most mountainous areas.

In July 2021, during his tour of the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karimabad, Hunza, Mr. Mahmood observed the classrooms, visited the library and sports ground, and spent time with the students and teachers, taking a keen interest in understanding the educational challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. He was accompanied by Mr. Azam Khan, Gilgit-Baltistan’s Education Minister.  

During the course of their visit, the guests were informed about the history, scope and future of Aga Khan Schools in Pakistan.  They also learned about the school’s role in promoting women’s education in the region and the success of its alumni who are excelling across the globe.

Mr. Mahmood greatly appreciated the role of AKES in providing quality education to 50,000 children across Pakistan. He particularly lauded the school on its high academic standards, educational facilities and the learning and confidence of its students.
