The network of Aga Khan Academies will eventually form an integrated global learning community of 18 schools in 14 countries (see a map), serving approximately 14,000 girls and boys of exceptional calibre and graduating 1,500 students annually.
In 2003, the first of the Aga Khan Academies was established in the Kizingo area of Mombasa, Kenya. The design of the 18-acre campus was inspired by Swahili architecture and includes a residential facility, a sports complex, classrooms, resource areas and common areas.
The Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad began operating in 2011 on a 100-acre campus near the city of Hyderabad, India. The Academy opened first with its Junior School and then in 2012 initiated the Senior School, including the residential programme.
The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is the third in the network of Aga Khan Academies. It follows the highly successful model established by the first two Academies in Mombasa and Hyderabad.
A forthcoming Aga Khan Academy in Dhaka, Bangladesh is currently under construction.
The growing network of Aga Khan Academies already allows faculty to collaborate across the network to develop curricula and share best pedagogical practices.
