Collaboration dates back to 1986 when the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation partnered with the Aga Khan Foundation Bangladesh on a community health programme in Dhaka. Since then our partnership has grown to include programming in Pakistan and more recently Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mozambique, Tajikistan and Syria. A 2005 Memorandum of Understanding has strengthened cooperation in the areas of culture, health and education, rural development, capacity building, human resource development and economic rehabilitation.

AKDN in Norway
In Norway, the Aga Khan Foundation has been working to address the needs of immigrant children, many of whom are refugees from civil strife elsewhere in the world. As the early years are often the first moments when migrant families, particularly new arrivals, come into contact with mainstream society, AKF focusses on early childhood development. His Highness has spoken at the Nobel Institute in Oslo on “Democratic Development, Pluralism and Civil Society”. A number of AKDN-sponsored cultural events, including exhibitions and concerts, have also been held in Oslo.
