The creation of parks and gardens has been an important part of the AKDN’s work in several rapidly urbanising cities in the developing world, including Cairo, Bamako, Kabul and Delhi.  Fountains, water-chutes, ponds and channels of running water are central features to their design, and contribute to an overall sense of peace and well-being in these urban oases.  The Aga Khan parks and gardens provide millions of city dwellers and visitors a tranquil place for contemplation and a safe space for leisure and dialogue.
