Tajik vocalist Ozoda Ashurova performs a variety of urban musical styles, which range from the classical art music suites collectively known as Shashmaqom to lighter songs. Ashurova sings to the accompaniment of the sato-tanbur, a long-necked lute that may be either bowed or plucked, and is played in this concert by Abduvali Abdurashidov, a leading performer and scholar of Tajik music.
