dhrc - Innovation Lab
At the AKDN dHRC Innovation Lab, engineers and developers conduct cutting-edge research to ideate, design, develop and test high-impact, cost-effective innovative devices that respond to health care delivery challenges in low-resource settings. The Innovation Lab was established in 2014.
Leveraging the exponential growth in mobile technology, AKDN dHRC focuses on mobile application development to address health issues prevalent in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The Centre develops and implements mHealth apps to create awareness in target populations, streamline processes and empower governments to monitor their health care system. The aim is to strengthen health systems and improve health outcomes of poor and medically underserved communities.
The Innovation Lab has recently acquired a 3D-printer, which enables production of health care devices at low-cost, significantly improving quality of life. The laboratory also develops tools that reduce geographical and spatial barriers in remote and rural areas, facilitating delivery of equitable health care.
