BBC’s Lopa Kothari reports from the Ismaili Centre Lisbon and interviews Fairouz Nishanova, Director of the Aga Khan Music Awards and the Aga Khan Music Initiative, who said: "The countries that we celebrate throughout these Awards are the traditions that we celebrate. None of these traditions considers music and entertainment. This is a very new and rather western concept. In Eastern cultures, music is something that accompanies every element of everyday life. This is how customs are passed on through one generation to another; this is how models of social cohesion are very often transmitted from one generation to another."
