Aga Khan Education Services in Tajikistan
During the past decade, Tajikistan’s education system has confronted significant challenges, including an exodus of teaching talent and a decline in government funding following the break-up of the Soviet Union. An important part of the country’s development going forward is the establishment of an education system that can help its future leaders develop critical thinking skills,  understand the intricacies of the global economy and communicate effectively with the rest of the world. Education will also play an important role in fostering an appreciation for cultural diversity amongst the Tajik people. Established in Tajikistan in 1995, the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES) seeks to address these needs by directly participating in the education processes, facilitating the professional training of teachers, strengthening existing schools and providing scholarships.
