Australia Awards - The Australia Awards are a whole-of-government initiative bringing together scholarships and fellowships administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade the Department of Education and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), offering the next generation of global leaders an opportunity to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia and for high-achieving Australians to do the same overseas.
British Chevening Scholarships - Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British embassies and high commissions throughout the world.
British Federation of Women Graduates (BFWG) - British Federation of Women Graduates (BFWG) and Funds for Women Graduates (FfWG) makes awards to women graduates undertaking doctorate research in Great Britain on the basis of academic excellence. These awards are made without reference to financial need.
British Marshall Scholarships - Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the UK. At least 40 scholars are selected each year to study either at graduate or occasionally undergraduate level at an UK institution in any field of study. Each scholarship is held for two years. The scholarship covers university fees, cost of living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant, research and daily travel grants, fares to and from the United States and, where applicable, a contribution towards the support of a dependent spouse.
Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund (UK) - The Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund (CCSF) provides approximately 15 annual awards ranging from £2,000 to £5,000 to Canadian men and women pursuing academic and artistic postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. These awards are for postgraduate academic and artistic studies in the UK, and are exclusively for students who have already commenced their postgraduate programme of study in the UK.
Canon Collins Trust - Canon Collins Trust has been running postgraduate scholarship programmes for southern African candidates since 1981. During this time, the Trust has supported more than 3,500 scholars from 14 southern African countries. Today the Trust runs ten postgraduate scholarship programmes for study in the UK, Ireland, South Africa and Malawi.
European Union Erasmus + Programme Funding Scheme - EU-funded scholarships for Master’s studies at EU universities for third country nationals as well as scholarships for EU-nationals studying in third countries.
France The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme - The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme was established by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs to enable French higher education establishments to attract top foreign students to enroll in their master’s and PhD courses. Gates Cambridge Scholarships - Through a donation by the Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge, the Gates Cambridge Trust was established to provide grants to outstanding graduate students from outside the United Kingdom to study at the university. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of outstanding academic merit, leadership potential and commitment of scholars to serving their communities. Gates Cambridge Scholarships are awarded to students who gain admission to the University of Cambridge through the University's regular procedures. They cover the full cost of study at Cambridge for a single person - namely, all approved University and College tuition fees, a maintenance allowance, a further discretionary allowance for study-related activities and one return economy airfare between the UK and the scholar’s normal country of residence.
Germany The DAAD - DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst or German Academic Exchange Service) awards scholarships and grants for study at German universities and research institutes with funding from the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Funding is provided to students, student trainees and interns, doctoral students, and academics and researchers.
Global Affairs Canada Scholarships - Global Affairs Canada is responsible for the Government of Canada's participation in major International Scholarship Programs. Global Affairs Canada provides support to international scholars in Canada, which is often reciprocated by foreign governments which support Canadian scholars in their countries.
International Education Financial Aid (IEFA) - IEFA is a resource for financial aid, college scholarship and grant information for US and international students wishing to study abroad.
International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) IREX facilitates the international exchange of students, scholars, and professionals through educational advising; standardised testing; study, research, and internships abroad; and fellowship administration. IREX is headquartered in Washington, DC, and has offices in the following AKDN countries: Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan.
International Student - An international student and study abroad website that provides news, information, resources for international students to prepare them for a study abroad experience.
JN Tata Endowment Fund - The JN Tata Endowment awards a one-time loan scholarships to Indian nationals for Postgraduate/PhD/Post doctoral studies abroad. Only those students who have graduated from an Indian university are eligible to apply. Applicants must have a consistently high academic record and other achievements to their credit.
Margaret McNamara Education Grants (MMEG) - The Margaret McNamara provides grants for women from the developing countries who are committed to improving the lives of women and children in their home countries. Awards are granted to women studying at accredited universities in the US and Canada, and selected universities in South Africa and Latin America.
Nuffic - Nuffic is the Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education manages various scholarship and funding programmes on behalf of the Dutch government, foreign governments, private donors and the European Commission, as well as programmes resulting from bilateral agreements between specific countries.
Open Society Foundation - The Open Society Foundation awards a limited number of grants to individuals, primarily through scholarships and fellowships offered across a number of different programmes. Individuals may apply for multiple grants at once. Scholarships are awarded to a qualified person to attend or affiliate with an accredited university. Fellowships are awarded to a qualified individual to work on a project in a field aligned with Open Society values over a fixed period of time.
Pakistan Higher Education Commission (HEC) gives information about scholarships available for Pakistani students for foreign study.
Science Careers - The Science Careers website contains a section on funding sources for training in the sciences.
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) - The AAUW’s International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research to women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - The Asian Development Bank/Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) offers about 150 postgraduate scholarships a year for studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions.
The Charles Wallace India Trust - The Charles Wallace India Trust gives grants to Indians in the early or middle stages of their careers who are living in India and working or studying in the arts, heritage conservation or the humanities. The grants enable successful applicants to achieve their artistic, academic or professional ambitions through spending time in the United Kingdom. The categories of grants available include: fully-funded awards; visiting fellowships in agreed subjects at specific institutions; grants for research and professional visits; grants for doctoral study; and grants to attend the Scottish Universities Summer School.
The Inlaks Foundation - Scholarships are open to all Indian citizens who are resident in India at the time of application. Candidates are normally expected to hold a good first degree from a recognised university in India. Indian citizens who hold a good undergraduate degree from a recognized university outside India, must have resided continuously and been employed or been studying in India, for at least two years, after their under-graduation. People having a postgraduate degree (e.g. Master’s or PhD) from a university outside India are not eligible; those who have started but not completed a postgraduate degree outside India are also ineligible.
The Johns Hopkins Scholarship Programmes - There are several scholarships available through the Bloomberg School such as the Sommer Scholars, Brown Scholars, Johnson & Johnson Community Health Care Scholars Programme and Global Health Scholarship Programme.

The Rhodes Scholarships tenable at the University of Oxford - The Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest international fellowships, were initiated after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, and bring outstanding students from many countries around the world to the University of Oxford. Intellectual distinction is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for election to a Rhodes Scholarship. Selection committees are charged to seek excellence in qualities of mind and in qualities of person which, in combination, offer the promise of effective service to the world in the decades ahead. Rhodes Scholars are elected for two years of study at the University of Oxford, with the possibility of renewal for a third year. All educational costs, such as matriculation, tuition, laboratory and certain other fees, are paid on the Scholar's behalf by the Rhodes Trustees. Each Scholar receives in addition a maintenance allowance adequate to meet necessary expenses for term-time and vacations. The Rhodes Trustees cover the necessary costs of travel to and from Oxford, and upon application, may approve additional grants for research purposes or study-related travel.
The Rotary Foundation - The Rotary Foundation offers scholarships for college graduates and professionals to study peace and conflict resolution or water and sanitation. Rotary peace fellowships are available to candidates who want to participate in a master’s degree or certificate programme at one of our six partner universities. Foundation water scholarships are available to candidates who have already been admitted to one of IHE Delft Institute for Water Education eligible 18-month Master of science degree programs. The Saïd Foundation Scholarships - The Saïd Foundation has offered educational scholarships and training opportunities since 1984. Each year, the Foundation offers around twenty postgraduate scholarships to nationals from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine and Syria. Scholarships are primarily offered for one year postgraduate courses in the UK, in exceptional circumstances it may be possible to consider candidates for two year courses. The Foundation also offers one or two PhD/DPhil scholarships a year but only at Oxford and Cambridge universities.
The Shell Centenary Scholarships (TSCSF) (in the UK) - Shell Centenary Chevening Scholarships The Shell Centenary Fund co-sponsors a number of Chevening Awards supporting STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) subjects related to the energy industry or socio-economic development.
The Swiss Government provides scholarships for foreign students through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students. These scholarships are offered on the basis of reciprocity (fixed number of scholarships for each country) or within the frame of a scholarship pool (scholarships without fixed distribution by country). They are intended for postgraduate students who, by staying in Switzerland, will be able to further their education and to undertake research work in the fields in which the Swiss universities are particularly active. Scholarships are also offered for postgraduate studies at the Universities of Applied Sciences. Application forms can be obtained from the Ministry of Education or institution in charge of scholarships in the country of origin of the candidate or from the Swiss diplomatic representation.
UK Commonwealth Scholarships - The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) awards over 800 scholarships and fellowships for postgraduate study and professional development to Commonwealth citizens each year. The CSC aims to contribute to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests, support excellence in UK higher education, and sustain the principles of the Commonwealth. Candidates are selected on the basis of merit and their potential to contribute to the needs of their home countries. Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships in the UK are funded by the Department for International Development (for developing Commonwealth countries) and the Department for Education (for developed Commonwealth countries), in conjunction with UK universities.
UK Overseas Research Scholarship - ORS awards offer international postgraduate students the opportunity to carry out a broad range of research at well-established UK academic institutions of worldwide recognition. ORS awards provide funding to pay the difference between the international student tuition fees and the home/EU student tuition fees charged by the academic institution that the student attends. ORS awards do not cover the home/EU fee element, maintenance or travel expenses. ORS awards are intended for students of full-time postgraduate research study only. Prospective applicants should contact institutions directly for information on how to apply for an ORS awards.

US-UK Fulbright Commission - The US-UK Fulbright Commission provides awards to US citizens to fund the first year of a master's or doctorate degree or to pursue research at an educational institution within the UK. The awards cover tuition fees, a maintenance stipend and accident and sickness insurance for one academic year, usually beginning in mid-late September (approximately 9 months). All applications for a Fulbright award to the UK must be made via the Institute of International Education (IIE) in New York.
World Bank Scholarship Program - The World Bank Scholarships Program contributes to the World Bank Group’s mission of forging new dynamic approaches to capacity development and knowledge sharing in the developing world. Currently, the World Bank Scholarships Program offers two sources of funding for graduate studies in development-related fields for mid-career professionals and researchers:
1. Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP). Since 1987, JJWBGSP has enabled more than 5,800 mid-career professionals from developing countries and Japan to complete graduate degrees in development-related fields. On an annual basis, the Government of Japan solely funds the JJ/WBGSP).
2. Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program (RSMFP). Since 1982, this fellowship programme has enabled PhD candidates from developing countries to undertake research at institutions abroad. Fellowships are for 6–10 month periods and can be up to US$25,000. The RSMFP was established with funding from the World Bank and the governments of Bangladesh, China, India, Kuwait, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, and former Yugoslavia. This programme may be restructured. There are no plans to call for fellowship applications before Fall 2018.
