Better nutrition

Project/Country Description:

Droughts and climate-related disasters result in lower crop yields, and high levels of carbon emissions reduce the nutritional value of foods.

In Tajikistan, where malnutrition is widespread and a quarter of all children under five years are stunted, the University of Central Asia has begun working with farmers to introduce sweet potato value chains that can help improve nutrition for all.

Heat and drought-tolerant sweet potatoes are particularly rich in vitamins and beta-carotene. Photo: UCA / Azamat Azarov. Learn more.

Fact Description:

For over 30 years, AKDN has worked in remote and fragile geographies to reduce poverty, ensure food security and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and their families.
