Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa Aga Khan visit Pakistan

29 November 2018 - Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa Aga Khan travelled to Pakistan for a six-day working visit in late October 2018, which included stops in several districts of Gilgit-Baltistan as well as in Chitral district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, along with the capital city of Islamabad and the southern city of Karachi.

Aga Khan, MNH offer help to victims of fire accidents

The Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam, in collaboration with the Muhimbili National Hospital, is expected to carry out operations on 46 women victims of fire accidents. Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the Head of Aga Khan hospital surgery unit, Dr Athar Ali, said the exercise will be free of charge and will involve women and children affected by fire accidents.

 

 

Aga Khan Hospital and MNH get Sh268m for women and children surgery

The Aga Khan Hospital in Dar-es-Salaam and Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) have partnered with religious leaders and non-governmental organisations to raise Sh268 million that will fund plastic and reconstructive surgery for 40 women and children. The two facilities have been offering this kind of treatment and their initiative has now been supported by other organisations. Women for Women, a non-governmental organisation, will provide doctors while Sadaka Network will coordinate the financial contributions from the public.

Digital Health Services implemented in East Africa

In July 2018, the AKDN dHRC team visited Kenya to implement and initiate digital health services at four sites. The Aga Khan Hospital (AKH), Mombasa was connected as a hub site to three spoke sites, Kilifi Health Centre, Akunda Health Centre and Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa for teleconsultation services in various specialties. Connecting AKH, Mombasa with the Aga Khan Academy for family medicine services marks the first connection established between Aga Khan Health Services and Aga Khan Academies.

Aga Khan performs over 100 free plastic surgeries

The Aga Khan Hospital Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (AKHD) through its Women for Women Programme has performed 102 free plastic and reconstructive surgeries on women and children who had deformities resulting from burns, violence and accidents. The programme is a collaborative effort between AKHD, Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) and the Reconstructing Women International. AKHD's plastic surgeon, Athar Ali, announced that the Reconstructing Women International team would be travelling to Dar es Salaam in November to perform similar surgeries on 40 women and children.

Free ‘Breast Cancer Camps’ to be held in Ukunda, Kwale

Mombasa residents turned up in large numbers to participate in this year’s Breast Cancer Walk 2018 organised by the Aga Khan Hospital (AKH) and the Machele Foundation. Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Najib Balala, applauded the AKH for starting a support group in 2001 called the Breast Cancer Awareness Support Group (BCASG). "As we walk today into the streets of Mombasa raising awareness on breast cancer and announcing the dates of the free breast camp at AKH Mombasa the key message is early detection is the cure," said Dr Sultana Sherman, AKH Head of Outreach
