FMIC marks 9th quality improvement, patient safety convention to boost up healthcare facility

On 9 November in Kabul, the French Medical Institute for Children (FMIC) held its 9th quality improvement and patient safety convention to foster healthcare facility. FMIC has annually sponsored the quality and patient safety convention, which showcases Afghan health professionals’ high capacity for critical thinking and resolve for quality healthcare. The theme for this year’s convention was "100 years of quality" to appreciate the work of professionals for maintaining quality in their routine work and service delivery.

 

 

Hayat – Digital Health technologies for improved access to and coverage of MNCH Services

Hayat is a mHealth innovation, which aims to empower frontline health workers with digital health technologies in efforts to increase coverage of and access to routine immunisation, maternal, new-born and child care (MNCH) and child growth services in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

President Ghani praises AKDN work in Afghanistan

On 23 September, the President of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, met with Nurjehan Mawani, AKDN Representative for Afghanistan. The President praised AKDN’s efforts for the implementation of different projects, particularly in areas of agriculture and preservation of cultural heritages. Ms Mawani said AKDN will continue its support to different projects in Afghanistan.

Government sends agreement on construction of new Tajik-Afghan bridge for ratification to parliament

The Government of Tajikistan has sent an agreement concluded with AKDN on the construction of a new Tajik-Afghan bridge across the Panj River for the ratification to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament). The construction of the bridge across the Panj River will consolidate permanent overland links between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the Tajik southern Khatlon province.

 

 

President Ghani inspects ‘Kabul Machine House’ restoration process

On 10 June, Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani inspected the restoration process of the Kabul Machine House (one of the biggest recreational parks). He was accompanied by Acting Minister of Information and Culture and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) representative. He stated it was good news for Kabul citizens that one of the country’s historic places was being restored while keeping its historical and architectural designs. He also praised AKF and Germany’s financial support for the restoration of the Machine House, which will be a place for cultural activities, conferences, book selling, theatre shows as well as durable place for the exhibition of Afghan women’s products.

One more bridge across the Panj River will connect Tajikistan and Afghanistan

The Government of Tajikistan has approved a draft agreement between the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Tajikistan on cooperation of the construction of a new Tajik-Afghan bridge across the Panj River. The agreement includes the construction of the bridge across the Panj River that will consolidate permanent overland links between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the Tajik southern Khatlon province. The project also includes the construction of a 50-kilometer road from Vose district to Farkhor district.
