Project/Country Description:
In the high altitudes of Naryn, Kyrgyzstan, farmers are limited in what they can grow, which makes it easy for people to have nutritional deficiencies. In response to this, the Aga Khan Foundation helped small-scale farmers to construct Chinese-style solar greenhouses, where vegetables could grow during the winter even when temperatures dropped as low as -20 C. This greenhouse owner grows and sells a variety of fruits, in addition to roses that cannot be found anywhere else in the country. AKDN / Christopher Wilton-Steer. Learn more.
