Zainab Mala: Science and mathematics teacher at Aga Khan School receives IT award

Ms Zainab Mala is a Science and Mathematics teacher at the Diamond Jubilee High School in Mumbai, managed by the Aga Khan Education Service, India. Like many in the teaching profession, Zainab constantly strives to create effective learning environments to inspire and enable students to fulfil their potential. Recently she was awarded the “Most Innovative IT Teacher Award” at the IT Guru Awards 2020 – demonstrating her commitment and the potential women have in science and technology.

Staff at the Aga Khan School, Mundra use science to help improve the environment

The Aga Khan Education Service, India is conscious about environmental conservation and is taking steps to highlight and instil awareness across all its schools. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a newfound awareness of the importance of handwashing. Keeping this in mind, along with the concept of reducing, reusing and recycling in everyday life, staff at the Aga Khan School, Mundra pioneered the innovative idea of building a handwashing station from materials such as an unused water tank, 20-litre filtered water bottles and waste construction materials such as iron rods.
