The Bala Hissar citadel

The Bala Hissar citadel site is a registered national monument, probably dating to the pre-Achaemenid period (Bronze Age). It is also the largest open space in Kabul. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture is currently conserving the site’s structures and undertaking archaeological investigations to find out more about the citadel’s origins, while transforming it into Kabul’s first archaeological park. Fact Description: 

Over 350 monuments and historic sites have been restored and rehabilitated since the Aga Khan Trust for Culture was founded. It has also received over 13 UNESCO heritage awards for excellence in restoration and numerous national and international prizes for its approach to urban regeneration.
